COD Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay

Infinity Ward have finally stopped the teaser nonsense and have given us something solid at E3: Genuine gameplay footage.

you can watch the footage here.

So, now that you’re back from watching that (wasn’t it cool?), let’s analyze!

For starters, we can see that the action is all still there, but more on that in a minute. At first I was disappointed that the video kept pointing at the controller but then I realized that it was highlighting one of COD’s all time strengths. The controls appear to be so solid and tight and intuitive that the person playing the demo. COD has always been praised for being one of the best FPS’s out there, but even more so that it managed mouse and keyboard WASD like controls on a console. COD MWF2 is looking like it will maintain the same excellent controls.

While the scene we saw is riddled with action sequences that you can play through, it’s also got that MWF flair in the sequences in that the heat of war may prevent you from seeing something cool (in the video, at around 5:50, you can see MacTavish ice-picking a guy from the corner as his snowboard drives by, laying him on the ground and stabbing him in the chest with his ice pick (a sequence almost missed by the person playing the demo).

But a brand new addition has taken place here and that is the addition of vehichles. In the scene, while you are stealthing about in the foggy snow, you run into a jeep, personnel trucks, jeeps and snow mobiles. Immediately, you get the sense that vehichles are much more predominant in this itteration of the MWF franchise and IW do not dissapoint. When your plan goes horribly wrong and you and MacTavish need to evac to extraction point bravo, you are instructed to ride onto some snowmobiles you have just freed up. While the controls for these may seem kind of clunky at first, a clear scene where you are headed straight for a tree only to curve right at the last second with the utmost precision lets you know that the controls for these are solid as well (let’s hope this keeps up).

The scene ends in a flurry of fire and death as you and your two man army battle it out against snowmobiles, enemy troops and some form of explosive-dealing machine (possibly a helicopter) chase after you.

I can’t wait to see more footage of this game and previous trailers have indicated that it will have varied environments (lots of cities came up in the Reveal 2 Trailer). Keep it up IW.

MWF will be available on Xbox 360 in  November of this year.
